Small business owners: Watch out for debt relief scams like Corporate Turnaround

I’ve written posts here previously warning individuals about debt relief companies, which often are guilty of creating more debt and no relief.

But recent trends indicate that small business owners also need to watch out for debt relief scams specifically aimed at small businesses.

This post on CreditSlips.org by Professor Bob Lawless notes an increase of TV ads by debt relief companies such as Corporate Turnaround aimed at small business owners. Lawless also explains that Corporate Turnaround is just another name for a company called Commercial Credit Counseling Services, Inc. which has been reprimanded and issued cease-and-desist orders by by several states including Oregon and Indiana, not to mention a letter to the Federal Trade Commission by 40 state attorneys general detailing the abuses by the debt relief industry.
