Is foreclosure the end of the line for New York City students?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A revealing study titled Kids and Foreclosures: New York City<\/a><\/strong> was released yesterday by New York University’s Institute for Education and Social Policy and NYU’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy.\u00a0 The study demonstrates that students living in homes subject to foreclosure suffered lower reading and math scores.\u00a0 The study also notes that the majority of foreclosures in New York City were in southeast Queens and northern Brooklyn.\u00a0 An article<\/a> in Crain’s New York Business<\/em> provides more detail.<\/p>\n

So often the human cost of foreclosure is overlooked.\u00a0 We hear about the large numbers of foreclosures, the cost to our economy, etc.\u00a0 But foreclosure also takes a very personal and psychological toll on people.\u00a0 This cost to our society is more difficult to measure and is frequently overlooked.\u00a0 But it’s just as important if not moreso.<\/p>\n
