NPR has a good piece this morning on WNYC about a real estate agent in Springfield, MO who goes door to door helping homeowners facing foreclosure. She and her partner literally knock on doors and offer their services for free. As a result, they’ve helped a number of homeowners at least temporarily stave off foreclosure in the hopes that they can get a loan modification.

On one hand, the story really captures the stress and anxiety associated with foreclosure. But on the other hand, it’s a reminder that there are things you can do, strategies you can implement, to save your home, even when the situation may seem dire. Of course, it’s always better to be proactive about your foreclosure situation than wait for a good Samaritan to come knocking at your door.
